Lenten Reflection

“Reflection for the fifth week of Lent”

Werner WolfWerner Wolf, Capuchin

What is God telling us in the Scriptures for this week of Lent?

1. Do I have to tell you this again: “I will put my spirit in you that you may live, … thus you shall know that I am God.” [Ezekiel: chapter 37, verse 14]

2. Do you really believe that the One who raised Jesus from the dead, also dwells in you through His Spirit? [Romans 8:11]

3. Or, do you believe that Jesus is the Resurrection and Life that lives in you?
If so, anyone who lives and believes in Jesus will never die. Wow, think about that!
[John 11:25]

4. In conclusion, our FAITH is really being tested. Our TRUST in God is doubted. Jesus was challenged and even his own disciples had their doubts. So do we have our doubts. We are called to deeper faith. Our readings do tell us that the Spirit is within us.

5. Jesus is actually telling you and me …
a) From the Hebrew Scriptures … “I have promised and I will do it.”
[Ezekiel 37:14]
b) From the Christian Scriptures …“The One who calls you is faithful, and
will accomplish it.” [I Thessalonians 5:24]

6. Practice for the week: Read the Word of God; sit with the Word of God and just
sit and listen to the Word of God. Amen.

[Reflection is based on the Readings for Fifth Sunday of Lent, Sunday Cycle, Year A.
1) Ezekiel 37:12-24; 2)Romans 8:8-11; 3) John 11:1-45; Psalm 130:1-8]
