Sharing the good news

Over 160 youth, many from Milwaukee's central city, gathered at Cardinal Stritch University, November 14, to examine and discuss how to become a "Leader of Peace" in the City of Milwaukee.

House of Peace Youth Director and Pebbles of Peace Outweighing Boulders of Violence facilitator, Dr. Lisa Calderone-Stewart, led the group as they discussed strategies to become a "Leader of Peace" in the students' families, neighborhoods, and schools.

Community leaders representing government, media, and education were present at each table, listening to the concerns of our city's youth.

Leaders included Milwaukee Police Chief Nan Hegerty; State Senator Lena Taylor; Milwaukee County Supervisor Toni M. Clark; TV6 Anchor Ted Perry; Danny Clayton (The Fish Radio); Thomas McGinnity, Executive Director Milwaukee Teacher Education Ctr; Dave Weingrod, MPS Service Learning Coordinator/Office of Wellness & Prevention; Dan Didomizio, Cardinal Stritch University Professor; Dora Montoya, Director of Multicultural Center for Education Excellence, UWM; Jamar Wills (Boys/Girls Club); Milwaukee County Reserve Judge Phil Chevez; Rev. Amana Grey; Father John Celichowski, President of the Franciscan International Board; Joseph Moriarty, Jacob's Well; Gina Vany, Hmong Friendship Assoc.; Aleau from the Non-Violence Training; Judy Longden, Interfaith Office of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee; representatives from the offices of Sen. Kohl (Marquette Baylor); Sen. Feingold (Rebecca Lopez & Carl Hampton).
