Spiritual Reflection
“A Reflection for after Easter"

Some thoughts on the Easter Season:
It is typical for many Christians to do something "for Lent." We give up
this, give up that, maybe try to pray "more," or in a different way. It has
often occurred to me that we might make more out of the Easter Season. Why
not "do something" for the Easter Season? Easter is more than a day, but is
a season of 50 days.
Lenten practices can take on a somber tone, though they don't have to. But
that is the older feeling of "penitence," perhaps having to do with
weaknesses of failings. It would seem to me that a practice for Easter
would be to highlight what Easter is all about: new life, the joy of
resurrection, finding the life of the Risen Jesus in our midst.
And so a practice for Easter Time might focus on the positive, enhancing the
life of the people around us, some way to bring more joy and encouragement
into our own life and that of others. It could even be "fun!" Make the
friendly phone call or personal visit. Send the random greeting card to
someone to whom you have been intending to write. Send or bring flowers or
candy to a shut-in or sick friend, or to anyone, "just because."
And, of course, there is always prayer. If extra Mass attendance is good for
Lent, why not for Easter Time? Or extra prayer time at home, focusing on the
scriptures and themes of Easter. Let's celebrate Easter Time!
