A Time of Revelation

John 11:1-45

In last Sunday’s gospel reading (John 9:1-41), Jesus told his disciples that the man born blind wasn’t because of his sin or that of his parents but rather that God’s works might be made visible in him (John 9:3). In today’s gospel, he tells them that Lazarus’ sickness won’t end in death but rather be for the glory of God and God’s Son.

Sickness and other forms of suffering and death are all parts of our human condition.  They’re also opportunities for God to work in and through us, just as God used Jesus to reveal to us who God is and how God wants us to live.  In the midst of the tremendous suffering that is gripping the world right now, there are also many, many moments and gestures of grace.  How can we, individually and with others, reveal God’s works and glory? –jc
