It’s Here | Está Aquí

St. Josaphat, Bishop & Martyr
Philemon 7-20; Luke 17:20-25

“Behold,” Jesus told the Pharisees, “the kingdom of God is among you.” After taking a quick look around the world, one might be forgiven for greeting the Lord’s observation with skepticism. Billions of people are in poverty, threatened by disease, and afflicted with all forms of conflict and violence. Where is the kingdom of God?

It’s here. It’s among us and within us, and it has been since Jesus began to proclaim it centuries ago. St. Paul trusted that his friend Philemon would recognize it enough to transform his relationship with Onesimus from master-slave to brothers in Christ. Josaphat believed it so strongly that he gave his life for its realization in the preservation of unity in the Church between East and West.

The kingdom of God isn’t always obvious in our world today. But it’s here. We just need to look for it, own, it, and let it live in us.

"Mirad", dijo Jesús a los fariseos, "el reino de Dios está entre vosotros". Después de echar una rápida mirada alrededor del mundo, uno podría ser perdonado por saludar la observación del Señor con escepticismo. Miles de millones de personas están en la pobreza, amenazadas por la enfermedad, y afligidas por toda forma de conflicto y violencia. ¿Dónde está el reino de Dios?

Está aquí. Está entre nosotros y dentro de nosotros, y lo ha estado desde que Jesús comenzó a proclamarlo hace siglos. San Pablo confió en que su amigo Filemón lo reconocería lo suficiente como para transformar su relación con Onésimo de amo-esclavo a hermano en Cristo. Josafat lo creía tan firmemente que dio su vida por su realización en la preservación de la unidad de la Iglesia entre Oriente y Occidente.

El reino de Dios no siempre es obvio en nuestro mundo actual. Pero está aquí. Sólo tenemos que buscarlo, poseerlo y dejarlo vivir en nosotros.
