Jesus came not to condemn but to save | Jesús no vino a condenar, sino a salvar

Acts 12:24-13:5a; John 12:44-50

Jesus came not to condemn but to save. That was his testimony to Nicodemus (John 3:16-17), and he repeats it to the crowds in today’s gospel reading.

His desire to save us, however, does not override our freedom.  We can choose to hear his words or ignore them. We can also choose to hear them but fail to take them to heart and observe them. In the Confiteor in the Penitential Rite at Mass, we acknowledge not only our sins of commission—doing and saying things that are contrary to God’s law and will—but also our sins of omission—what we have failed to do. Our action and inaction both witness to the authenticity of our life in Christ.

We all fail. What matters is what we learn and how we respond to our failures. Aging and death are inevitable. Growth and life are choices. Through the intercession of St. Catherine of Siena, Virgin, Mystic and Doctor of the Church, may our hearts be open to what is true, good, and directs us on the path of eternal life. May we have the courage to follow that path. jc

Hechos 12, 24-13, 5a; Juan 12, 44-50

Jesús no vino a condenar, sino a salvar.
