Parables and Boomerangs | Parábolas y Boomerangs

Saturday of the 3rd Week in Ordinary Time
2 Samuel 12:1-7a, 10-17; Mark 4:35-41

Parables in the Bible are often rhetorical boomerangs: they tell a story, invite the hearer to render a judgment, and reveal that he has just rendered judgment on himself. That’s what Nathan did with the parable that he told David. The king’s outrage was turned on himself for his adultery and murder. David was held accountable and punished for his offenses, but he also received God’s mercy.

Many of the storms we experience in our lives are of our own making. We sin or make mistakes, and we experience the consequences. Sometimes they feel overwhelming. We are buffeted with the winds of fear and other emotions. Waves of regret spill over our hearts. The Lord seems distant or disinterested.

But he is there with us in the boat. He cares. He “whom even the wind and sea obey” will keep us safe and guide us safely to shore. - jc

Sábado de la 3ª semana del tiempo ordinario
2 Samuel 12:1-7a, 10-17; Marcos 4:35-41

- jc
