Wednesday of the 2nd Week of Lent

Matthew 20:17-28

“You don’t know what you’re asking.  No saben ustedes lo que piden.”

James and John (and their mother, on their behalf) desired greatness.  But they didn’t understand what greatness on Jesus’ terms really meant. 

Greatness on Jesus’ terms means suffering—not all the time, but suffering all the same. It can be a bitter cup. 

But there’s more in that cup.  It’s also a cup of service, self-sacrifice and love.  When we own it as our cup, it can also be a cup of peace and joy. JC
