Friday After Epiphany
Today’s readings are all about witness. John names several witnesses that Jesus is the Son of God: the water of his baptism; the blood he shed on the cross as the Lamb of God offered in love; the Spirit that came upon him at his baptism; and finally, the Father whose voice came from heaven at Jesus’ baptism and his Transfiguration.
Our witness in the gospel reading is a man with leprosy. He presents himself to Jesus and professes faith that the Lord can heal him. Jesus touches (!) him and announces his healing. He then tells the man not to tell anyone of his cure but rather to go to the priest and make the offering prescribed in the law of Moses.
The man, however, doesn’t obey Jesus. Instead, out of joy he testifies to whomever will listen what Jesus has done for him. People then come from all over to see Jesus and be healed.
After healing all who come to him, Jesus then bears a different kind of witness. He goes off to pray and be in communion with his Father. He knows where his power is rooted.

Las lecturas de hoy tratan sobre los testigos. Juan nombra varios testigos de que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios: el agua de su bautismo; la sangre que derramó en la cruz como el Cordero de Dios ofrecido en amor; el Espíritu que vino sobre él en su bautismo; y finalmente, el Padre cuya voz vino del cielo en el bautismo de Jesús y su Transfiguración.
Nuestro testigo en la lectura del evangelio es un hombre con lepra. Se presenta a Jesús y profesa la fe de que el Señor puede curarlo. Jesús lo toca y anuncia su curación. Luego le dice al hombre que no le cuente a nadie su curación, sino que vaya al sacerdote y haga la ofrenda prescrita en la ley de Moisés.
El hombre, sin embargo, no obedece a Jesús. En cambio, por alegría da testimonio a quien quiera escuchar lo que Jesús ha hecho por él. La gente entonces viene de todas partes para ver a Jesús y ser curado.
Después de sanar a todos los que vienen a él, Jesús entonces da un tipo de testimonio diferente. Se va a rezar y a estar en comunión con su Padre. Sabe dónde está arraigado su poder.
