A Meal That Matters: 49th Annual “Slice for Life” Fundraiser Supports Capuchin Soup Kitchen
FARMINGTON HILLS, MICH. – On Monday, April 28, 2025, Buddy’s Pizza, creator of the original and most-awarded Detroit-style pizza, will host its 49th annual Slice for Life fundraiser to support Capuchin Soup Kitchen (CSK), donating 20 percent of dine-in and carry-out sales from all locations statewide to its longest-standing charitable partner.
Through a combination of percentage of sale proceeds, customer and staff donations and limited-time online contributions, last year’s Slice for Life campaign raised a record-breaking $120K to support CSK’s mission of feeding bodies, nourishing spirits and strengthening Detroit communities.
The goal is to set a new fundraising record this year. To help achieve it, Michiganders are invited to support the Slice for Life campaign by visiting any of Buddy’s Pizza’s 22 restaurants statewide to enjoy their favorite menu items on April 28, knowing that 20 percent of proceeds from their meal will be donated directly to CSK. Additional details on the Slice for Life program are available at cskdetroit.org/events.
“It is our honor and privilege to once again be able to offer pizza that pays it forward,” said Joe Dominiak, CEO, Buddy’s Pizza. “It’s dining to make a difference…our customers can help transform lives, one slice at a time.”
Additionally, back by popular demand, a fun and unique opportunity to own a part of Buddy’s Pizza history, and further support the Slice for Life initiative, is available in the form of an exclusive online auction of five authentic, seasoned Buddy’s Pizza custom square pans from its Original 6 Mile location. New this year, winners of the five pan auctions also each will receive a coupon book for free pizza for a year. The auction will go live on April 1, 2025, and Capuchin Soup Kitchen will receive 100 percent of auction proceeds.
All Slice for Life contributions will help support CSK’s community outreach services, connecting metro Detroiters in need with food, clothing, employment services, children’s programming and other vital resources. Since the Slice for Life program’s inception, Buddy’s Pizza has donated more than $4M to support Capuchin Soup Kitchen and its life-changing work throughout metro Detroit.
“The Slice for Life fundraiser is more than a meal – it’s a testament to what happens when compassion and community come together,” said Br. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap., executive director of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. “We are deeply grateful for our longstanding partnership with Buddy’s Pizza, which continues to help us provide meals, hope and dignity to our guests. Every slice truly makes a difference.”
The partnership between Buddy’s Pizza and Capuchin Soup Kitchen began in 1976, when the original Buddy’s Pizza location, at Six Mile and Conant in Detroit, was seeking ways to give back to the local community. Employees were asked for suggestions of an organization to support, and the team unanimously chose neighboring charity, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. In addition to the annual Slice for Life initiative, Buddy’s Pizza provides ongoing, weekly support to Capuchin Soup Kitchen throughout the year, donating pizzas that are served at the organization’s meal sites.
For individuals unable to dine-in or order carryout at Buddy’s Pizza on April 28, but still interested in supporting Capuchin Soup Kitchen, donations can be made online anytime at cskdetroit.org.
