Blessing of the Sick

The blessing incorporates a reading, reflection, prayers of intercession with the assembly, and a Blessing with a relic of the cross.

(En español)

This Blessing has ancient roots in the Church, dating back to the 6th century abbot, Saint Maurus, and has been celebrated at Saint Bonaventure’s for 100 or more years. Father Solanus was known to celebrate this Blessing each Wednesday during his many years at Saint Bonaventure and we have continued this tradition through to this day. It is a powerful experience of prayer and grace for the approximately 300 people who gather each week. Join us as we unite in thanksgiving and prayer for this moving Blessing. The Sacrament of Penance is available before and after the liturgy of Blessing and the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available by request. Members of the St. Bonaventure Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order graciously provide refreshments each Wednesday after the Blessing to continue the celebration of fellowship.
